Know About The Top Kpop Bands

Do you know what K-Pop is, or have you heard of it? You may have heard, but you have no idea of the magnitude of the phenomenon. BTS, for example, has more fans than Maroon 5. They are Korean pop music bands that sing and dance. The songs are very catchy, and in general, fashion is a very important element in the way they dress, groom, and carry their hair. For example, Blackpink and Selena Gomez released a music video in 2020 for ‘Ice Cream‘, making all Blackpink lovers melt. This is a pastel-coloured music video in which the five beautiful girls depict different versions of the modern woman image who knows what she’s worth and what she wants. Therefore, Blackpink ice cream merch has become popular among Blackpink fandoms called Blink.

Although most of their songs are in Korean (mixed with some English phrases), they gained much popularity worldwide. Their presence in social networks is really considerable and constitutes a good part of their success.

If you are a Kpop fan, this blog provides you with interesting background information about the top Kpop bands.

BTS

BTS stands for “Bangtan Sonyeondan,” which means Bulletproof Boy Scouts or Beyond the Scene.

The band consists of seven members, including Jin, Suga, RM, J-Hope, V, Jimin, and Jungkook. 2013 was the year when the band debuted. The boys released three studio albums, five EPs, nineteen singles, and three compilation albums in South Korea.

Moreover, the boys also released three studio albums, eight singles, and two compilation albums in Japan, where they gained an overwhelming popular. The fandoms who love BTS are known as ARMY (Adorable Representative MC for Youth).

BTS is one of the music bands in South Korea that have come closest to the western Billboard charts. And, this is because of their songs, including “DNA” and the remix of “Mic Drop,” with Steve Aoki and Desiigner.

EXO

The name comes from exoplanet (any planet beyond our solar system). The band debuted in 2012 and was known as the boy band with the most members. The band consisted of two subgroups EXO-K, consisting of Suho, Baekhyun, Chanyeol, DO, Kai, and Sehun; and EXO-M, composed of Xiumin, Luhan, Kris, Lay, Chen, and Tao. Both sang in Korean in Mandarin.

Between 2014 and 2015, Kris, Luhan, and Tao, all EXO-M members, sued SM Entertainment, the creator of the most successful K-pop bands, to terminate their contracts based on mistreatment allegations. Since then, the band became one, although EXO-CBX was established as a mini-satellite group in 2016, which gained success, with Baekhyun, Chen and Xiumin.

The boys have also participated in successful reality TV shows, documentaries, and web dramas.

NCT

More than a group, NCT or Neo Culture Technology is a new concept within the Kpop industry. In 2016, SM Entertainment launched this band.

The concept consists of establishing a Kpop band with a mobile and unlimited number of members of various nationalities, which will form subunits. NCT U, NCT 127, and NCT Dream have been created as well.

NCT U consists of Taeil, Taeyong, Doyoung, Ten, Jaehyun and Mark, along with two members from China, including Kun and Winwin.

Seoul-based NCT 127 consists of Taeil, Taeyong, Yuta, Jaehyun, Winwin, Mark, and Haechan (formerly known as Donghyuck).

NCT Dream consists of Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle, and Jisung.

All three bands debuted in 2016 with overwhelming success. For 2019, the Chinese subunit WayV, consisting of Kun, Ten, Winwin, Lucas, Xiaojun, Hendery, and Yangyang, was announced for their debut.

SM Entertainment also plans to launch subunits in Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, and Latin America. Like their peers, these boy bands have a strong social networks and multimedia presence.

Blackpink

Blackpink is a girl band consisting of four women, Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa, who debuted as a group in 2016. They comprise a multilingual performance powerhouse that engages fans across borders. The girls may have just started their global tour, but a strong fanbase makes the band popular beyond the South Korean borders.

The concept behind the band’s name is to contrast with the typical perception of femininity related to the pink shade. This name communicates that the band embodies more than beauty.

In 2016, the band released the single album “Square One” consisting of two songs, “Whistle” and “Boombayah.” In 2018, the band received international attention due to their single “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du” and the EP Square Up.

“Ddu-Du Ddu Du” hit No. 55 surpassed the English version of the song “Nobody” by Wonder Girls, which peaked at No. 76 in 2009 on Billboard. Likewise, Square Up hit No. 40 was on the Billboard 200.

The band have worked together with Dua Lipa on the “Kiss and Make Up” track. This move helped the band reach a new audience with a bilingual song. In 2019, this song was highly recognised because more than 200 million streamed it on Spotify.
